TIPS: Top 10 things NOT TO DO in LAS VEGAS

Hi guys, today we are in Las Vegas.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas BUT there are some mistakes you can and should avoid. Especially if it’s your first trip to the Sin City.

We happen to come to Vegas almost every month and became experts in all things local. Some of these tips were learned the hard way.

Comment below with some of the mistakes we haven’t mentioned.

  1. Before you even come to Las Vegas: Don’t forget about resort and hidden fees! Make sure you know your total for the hotel once you book it. Lots of times you see great deals on the Strip of $20-40 per night, but after you arrive hotels add on average 40-50$ per each night as a resort fee (includes wi-fi, parking, telephone calls, pools and gym access etc).

  2. Don’t accept any offers that seem to be “illegal” especially from strangers on the street. There are lots of undercover cops working on the Strip and you can easily get into trouble. Also, you may not see them, but Stirp area is monitored through hundreds of police cameras installed all around the Strip. So have fun but be smart about it.

  3. Don’t fall into scams. Ask about the price before you order something or ask for a service. Don’t forget to check all your receipts, whether it’s a restaurant, hotel or any other service. In many cases servers throw in a couple items you never ordered, especially if it is a party of 4+ people. Always double check. Also, girls on the street would buy you into a photo and after asking for a $10-20 tip for each person. Track your taxi, drink only the alcohol you purchased yourself and be aware of lots of girls hunting for some quick buck 💰 they’d order the most expensive drinks and food on the menu that you’ll be forced to pay for (they receive their tips from such restaurants). Just beware of anything that looks too good to be true.

  4. Don’t drink cheap cocktails on the Strip. See those huge cocktail drinks colored like a rainbow? STAY away - don’t drink them. Or take one per 10 people if you want to make some funny photos. The alcohol used is not the best, you never know what’s mixed. You’ll probably pass out after one drink or have terrible headache and it will spoil your vacation.

  5. Do NOT smoke in your hotel room. The cleaning fee could be $250-350 if you smoke. It will be charged to your room after you check out. If you want to smoke in your room, ask specifically for a smoking room at check-in.

  6. If your room has a mini fridge, make sure it is not charging automatically for every drink you move (most do).

  7. Don’t forget your sunscreen and water! Las Vegas is a desert. You don’t want to turn lobster red on your first day here. This is especially true for the summertime when it gets super-hot, but even during winter months it is better to have your sunscreen and water handy.

  8. Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes. If you have those new high heels - pls wear them only inside the hotel and casino you are staying at. New boots or loafers are also not an option. Only take what’s proven to be comfy. Favorite flip-flops, sneakers would do the job. As an option, have extra flip-flops in your bag.

  9. Don’t forget to put your valuables in a safe. Most crimes in hotels involve hotel stuff. Pls be mindful and lock your safe. In a sketchy cheap hotel it would be a good idea to place a “do not disturb’ sign on the door and skip housekeeping.

  10. Don’t make videos inside the casino, at the table games. Those could be considered cheating and you could be asked to leave or get into trouble.

And last but not the least, don’t forget to make reservations prior to your arrival. As restaurants are limited in capacity, shows happen to be sold out in minutes, you’d want to have something planned before you actually come here.

The most important part – HAVE FUN!

Why we created this Blog?

As we travel a lot, we started noticing that glossy advertisements and staged travel photos are sometimes far from reality. Even, the high price tag does not guarantee you’ll get what you paid for...
